Special Events at Triennial XIII
The act of worship is central to the Triennial experience. In worship at Triennial, we come together before God to sing, pray, learn and celebrate, drawing from the heart language and stories of people of all different ages, stages and cultural backgrounds. Worship will be vibrant and solemn, joy-filled and contemplative, multi-lingual and unified. As we connect with each other and embrace the language and story of all who are gathered, we will be transformed "with ever-increasing glory."
Worship will be led by Sandra Van Opstal, a Chicago-born, second-generation Latina who is passionate about creating atmospheres where people of different cultures can come together in peace to experience the presence and power of God. Sandra has worked extensively with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship and has led multiethnic worship teams at CHIC, Urbana, and Willow Creek Association conferences.
Our guests from around the world will be honored at the International Celebration on Friday. We will hear how God is working in and through women to advance his kingdom. This colorful and inspiring celebration has become a favorite for Triennial attendees over the years.
» Women Ministries Celebration
The Women Ministries Celebration will feature the exciting ways God has led WM in recent years through the work of AVA, Educate the Girls and Break the Chains, as well as featuring new WM opportunities. Two new books will be unveiled - one featuring the “balcony women” of various Covenant servant leaders; the other an inspirational book on the Biblical understanding of the “strong woman”, and women who have made significant contributions to the life and ministry of the Covenant will be recognized. It truly will be a celebration! You won’t want to miss it!
This Saturday-night event is a highlight at each Triennial. This year's concert will be headlined by Natalie Grant, powerhouse vocalist, heart-gripping songwriter and charismatic performer who recently released her seventh album, Relentless. Natalie was one of the first artists to open the eyes of the Church to the atrocities of human trafficking and does a lot of work in that regard. Her newest role is that of mom to twin daughters born in 2008.
Opening for Natalie will be a truly multi-dimensional performer, Michael Pearce Donley, who blends musical talent with comedic wit and theater experience. He is well known for his role as Hugh Butternut in the wildly successful show Triple Espresso and is a Covenanter hailing from Minneapolis, MN.
The Fun Run has become a special Triennial tradition and the funds raised by the run have had a huge impact on women ministries in the Congo Covenant Church. In 2010, the Fun Run will follow the peaceful and well-known Rock Creek Park Trail just behind the Omni Shoreham Hotel for a distance of 1 ½ miles before turning back to complete a 3 mile run altogether. Participants can jog, run, walk or leisurely stroll any portion of the course – or just come for the Fun Run t-shirt that all participants will receive!
At the Marketplace, you will be able to shop 'til you drop, with a wonderful selection of Triennial and Women Ministries apparel as well as fairly traded goods from all over the world at the International Bazaar! The Marketplace will also feature the published works of women of the Covenant, donated church cookbooks, along with many other book titles.
The Hall of Justice will be an interactive and engaging area featuring several specific areas of domestic and international injustice to raise awareness and to inspire a call within the Covenant to address such issues. Ministries and services working to address key areas of injustice issues will be exhibited in the Hall. Since our God is a God of justice, engaging, reflecting, praying, and committing to one or more of the issues featured in the Hall of Justice will be an important response to reflect God's glory.
